Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party access areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Strategists parties.
Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
