Automobiles in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement State

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were alerted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report initial examinations show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

City officials said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

A senior political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
